QinetiQ TO SPONSOR IMarEST’S MECSS 2017 CONFERENCE

QinetiQ is to be the Principal Sponsor of the Marine Electrical and Control Systems Safety Conference (MECSS 2017). The third conference in the series, being held in Glasgow on 22 and 23 November 2017, continues the theme of ‘Delivering integrated, dependable, safe and reliable systems’ and will focus on four key areas – prominent hazards, cyber security, whole system, and operational matters. The MECSS 2017 technical programme, is online at www.mecss.org.uk.

Organised by FIGS Events Limited on behalf of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) MECSS 2017 is being held at the University of Strathclyde’s Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) in Glasgow, with an Industrial Visit to the University’s Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) open to all delegates the day before the official proceedings begin.

“We are delighted to welcome QinetiQ as our Principal Sponsor,” says MECSS 2017 Conference Chairman, Kevin Daffey, Director Engineering & Technology, Marine at Rolls-Royce. “They are central to the industry MECSS serves and there is significant synergy between their work and our technical conference programme, there really couldn’t be a better-placed sponsor. We look forward to all they will bring to the event.”

QinetiQ’s Cyber CTO, Bryan Lillie also highlights the synergy between the MECSS programme and his organisation’s activities: “Cyber security; a range of prominent hazards; whole system design and operation; and autonomous vessels all figure on the MECSS agenda and are prominent in our work programme – constantly raising safety levels is core to our activities. We are looking forward to discussing our work with delegates from across the world over the two days.”

IMarEST’s learned society conferences are renowned for constructive and enjoyable networking events. The MECSS Conference Reception takes the form of a Civic Reception generously hosted by The City of Glasgow with special thanks to The Lord Provost and Glasgow City Council. This will be held on Wednesday 22 November at Glasgow City Chambers.

The Early Bird registration for MECSS 2017 (which is CPD approved by IMarEST) has been extended to Friday 27 October. In addition to QinetiQ’s sponsorship, MECSS numbers the US Office of Naval Research Global (ONRG); SAFETY4SEA; GREEN4SEA; Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and Glasgow City Council amongst its supporting organisations.
